Cadorna Line: Rifugio Venini & Monte di Tremezzo

In late April, great friends of our visited us from Spain. As it was not quite warm enough for the beach, and too late for winter activities, we decided to hike along the mountain ridge between Lake Como and Lake Lugano. This trail is part of the larger Cadorna Line defensive system built by the Italians during World War I. Much like the other trails we have done as part of this trail system, there were fantastic views of the mountains and lakes, and some interesting historical artifacts along the way.

The hike took us about 4 hours from our parking spot at Rifugio Buffalora to Monte di Tremezzo and back to our hut for the night: Rifugio Venini. For most of the way, you can walk on the military road that takes you to the hut. Alternatively, you can hike along the saddle ridge of the mountains and enjoy views from both sides.
